چکیده
X-RADIATION is one of the most powerful agents in causing embryonic malformations and has been used recently by many investigators. Among various kinds of radiation malformations, those of the brain have been of special interest. Job, Leibold, & Fitzmaurice (1935), Kaven (1938), Warkany & Schraffenberger (1947), Russell (1950), Hicks (1953,1954), Wilson & Karr (1951), Wilson, Jordan, & Brent (1953), Rugh & Grupp (1959), and Murakami & Kameyama (1958) studied teratogenic effects of X-rays on embryos by irradiating pregnant rats or mice. Exencephalia was listed as the chief malformation of the brain by most of these investigators. Radiation malformation of the snout and nostril was reported by Russell (1950) as having some relationship to otocephalies. In the present paper, a series of malformations belonging to the cyclopia-arrhinencephalia-otocephalia group are described, and the critical period at which the pattern of malformations originates is discussed.

Digital Malformations in the Mouse Foetus Caused by X-radiation during Pregnancy.
M A N Y investigators have reported experimental malformations caused by different kinds of extrinsic factors acting upon the maternal animal during pregnancy and affecting various parts of the mammalian foetus, but few have described digital malformations in detail. In the author's experiments, digits in mice embryos and foetuses were studied after X-radiation of their mothers during pregnancy...
متن کاملMalformation of the Extremity in the Mouse Foetus Caused by X-radiation of the Mother during Pregnancy.
W H I L E producing malformations in the mouse foetus with X-rays, the authors recognized an abnormal shortening of the extremities in a group treated on the 11th day of pregnancy. Such shortenings were caused by the absence, shortening, curvature, flexure or synostosis of the long bones of the extremities. Furthermore, in foetuses treated on the 12th day of pregnancy, numerous cases of ectroda...
متن کاملP-26: The Effects of Interferon-Gamma onCarbamazepine-Induced Fetal Malformations inMouse Fetus
Background: One in every 250 newborns is exposed to antiepileptic drugs, inutero .The risk of congenital malformations in newborns, prenatally exposed to antiepileptic drugs (AEDs), is around 5% which is 2 to 2.5 times that of general population; while carbamazepine (CBZ) and valproate (VPA) still provide the treatment of choice in most forms of epilepsy, being efficacious in approximately two-...
متن کاملModulation of radiation induced changes in nucleic acid content of liver of Swiss albino mouse by Tinospora cordifolia (Miers)
Background: Radiotherapy is the main modality of cancer treatment. There are many chemical radioprotectors which unfortunately have lethal or toxic effect. Therefore the search is on to find out natural plant based radioprotectors. A well known medicinal plant, which is more acceptable to the body, Tinospora cordifolia, was tested in animal tissues against gamma radiations. Radioprotectiv...
متن کاملTeratogenic effects of silymarin on mouse fetuses
Objective: Silybum marianum has been used for centuries in herbal medicine for treatment of liver diseases. Currently, there is no data available on the possible effects of silymarin on fetal development. This study aimed to investigate the teratogenic effect of silymarin on BALB/c mice fetuses. Materials and Methods: A total of 40 pregnant mice were divided into 4 groups of 10 mice each. Three...
